Catalyst has a commitment to moving beyond a needs-meeting approach of charity to empowering people, including those most affected by disadvantage, poverty and social exclusion, to being part of the transformation of their own local communities. C.O.A.C.H. has a track record of meeting the needs of tough communities through one-one engagement.

This community mentoring programme trains and mobilizes people to be part of the transformation of their own local communities, strengthening children, youth and families and the community itself. It is designed to respond to social, emotional, psychological, economic, material and spiritual needs through a model of coaching called R.E.A.L. coaching:
Relating and engaging;
Exploring dreams and problems;
Action planning; and
Letting go and reviewing.
A coach is someone who builds a sustained relationship with a young person or family, offering practical help and coaching towards life goals - a friend with purpose.
C.O.A.C.H. is aimed at families with children under 12 or youth aged 12 -14, and who are disadvantaged or are at risk of homelessness, domestic violence, isolation, addiction, poverty or other self-identified problems. Coaches come from all walks in life.
