The course has three key parts:
| 1) | one evening a week of training workshops with experienced practioners (see topics) over 3 ten week terms; |
| 2) | 2-3 hours per week practical service in an urban project (see practical service) |
| 3) | a residential weekend, From Vision to Action, which helps participants develop a vision for ongoing engagement in making a difference wherever they live, work and gather. |
We remember...
• 10% of what we read
• 20% of what we hear
• 30% of what we see
• 50% of what we hear and see
• 90% of what we do
We learn most by doing and reflecting on our actions!
Urban Mission Toolkit developed in the context of 10 years work on the Worlds End Estate and in working alongside others on the Ferrier estate (Greenwich), and the Alton estate (Roehampton), the Andover Estate (Islington) and in Hackney. The key issue has been to give local people, who live, work or gather there, what they need to be part of the change needed in their communities.
In addition to two courses planned in London, we have been approached by leaders in Bristol and Oxford and have agreed to work with them in running Urban Mission Toolkit there from October 2007.
Running for five years
Trained 300+ Christians from 40+ different churches
• Those who want to make a difference but lack the confidence to get started
• Those living on estates wanting to see their communities change
• Those already working in urban mission but have never been trained
• Those who are struggling to keep going and need a supportive network of like-minded people
